(1986) p.N.A.S.  usa 83, 8122, para la expresion de proteinas del virus de la gripe. Basicamente, las celulas son infectadas con un virus vacunal recombinante que expresa la arn polimerasa del fago t7 (vtf7-3) y a continuacion son transferidas con plasmidos que contienen la secuencia de la proteina a expresar bajo el control del promotor del fago t7.  la co-expresion de las proteinas virales pb1, pb2, pa y np permitio reconstituir una polimerasa funcional, in vivo, capaz de expresar un gen de referencia (cat) clonado, en polaridad negativa, entre los promotores de un segmento viral, en un arn sintetico (arn-cat).  la co-expresion de las 10 proteinas del virus de la gripe permitio la obtencion en el sobrenadante de las celulas transfectadas, de particulas recombinantes que se asemejan, en su tama\u00f1o y morfolog\u00eda, y en su modo de infectar celulas, a las autenticas particulas del virus de la gripe.
