Las protesis del material biocompatible pueden utilizarse para la reconstruccion laringo-traqueal. Asi evitamos incisiones adicionales para obtencion de injertos y nuevas intervenciones.  material y metodos. En un estudio preliminar determinamos la forma y longitud de la protesis a implantar.  realizamos un estudio clinico e histopatologico de la protesis en el grupo donde la supervivencia fue mayor de 30 dias. Las variables estudias son:  peso, temperatura, estridor inspiratorio, frecuencia respiratoria, diametro de la luz traqueal, recubrimiento del injerto por mucosa respiratoria, la interfase injerto\/traquea e inflamacion en la zona del implante.  realizamos un estudio estadistico descriptivo e inferencial de las variables mencionadas. El calculo del tama\u00f1o muestral fue para un error alfa del 5%.  resultados. La supervivencia fue mayor de 30 dias cuando respetamos la pared posterior traqueal e implantamos una protesis forma de teja de 2 mm. (Dos anillos traqueales) de longitud. La frecuencia respiratoria en reposo y ejercicio antes y despues de realizar el injerto, el peso protesis y el diametro de la luz traqueal antes y despues de realizar el injerto son significativamente diferentes (p&lt;0,05). La luz de la protesis se cubrio de mucosa respiratoria normal. En la zona de sutura del injerto se observa tejido inflamatorio cronico que estrecha la luz traqueal.  conclusion\/discusion. La protesis de polietileno se comporta aceptablemente, tanto clinica como anatomopatologicamente, en la rata. La sustitucion de toda la traquea cervical por la protesis no da buenos resultados. Sin embargo, la sustitucion de dos anillos preservando la pared posterior de la traquea da buenos resultados clinicos como anatomopatologicos. Los parametros clinicos no son significativamente distintos antes y despues del injerto en el grupo sin estridor.
