La conformacion de los polimeros difiere en todos los casos de la esperada para una forma a o y de los nylons convencionales. Las unidades derivadas del acido tartarico adoptan unos angulo de torsion caracteristicos que ocasionan un acortamiento de la unidad periodica. La estructura del sistema no se altera significativamente cuando se reemplazan unidades d por unidades l.  la poliamida quiral pefa, obtenida mediante polimerizacion anionica de la correspondiente b-lactama, puede cristalizar segun dos estructuras distintas. La primera de ellas corresponde a una forma extendida, mientras que la segunda se caracteriza por una conformacion estabilizada por el apilamiento ordenado de los grupos fenilo
