La resolucion disponible en el estudio de imagenes digitales ha venido siempre condicionada por el sistema de adquisicion de imagenes utilizado. La comprension y modelizacion del mismo ha permitido un mayor conocimiento en las posibilidades de aumento de resolucion. La deteccion de bordes constituye una etapa crucial y determinante en numerosos procesos que usan tecnicas de v.A. A menudo, cuando mayor sea la precision con la que estos son detectados y localizados, mejores seran los resultados obtenidos en subsiguientes etapas de procesamiento empleadas. La deteccion de bordes a nivel subpixel representa de esta forma una importante solucion como incremento de resolucion de los datos de partida. Numerosas son las aplicaciones de v.A. Donde se emplean transformaciones morfologicas. Hasta la actualidad estas han venido condicionadas, en el campo discreto de las imagenes digitales, por el tama\u00f1o del pixel utilizado. La posibilidad de emplear transformaciones morfologicas a nivel subpixel permitira la solucion de problemas hasta ahora no resueltos y la mejora en los resultados obtenidos por bastantes aplicaciones
