La tesis se puede dividir en tres partes. En la primera, que comprende los capitulos uno y dos, se presentan las ecuaciones basicas del electromagnetismo y se estudian los problemas que presenta su solucion mediante el metodo de los elementos finitos. En la segunda parte, en la que se incluyen los .Capitulos tres y cuatro; se resuelven problemas cerrados de autofunciones en dos y tres dimensiones (guias de onda y cavidades resonantes)9 por ultimo, en el capitulo cinco se estudian problemas abiertos bidimensionales como difraccion de cilindros inhomogeneos, acoplo de ondas en pantallas conductoras ranuradas o radiacion en presencia de objetos cilindricos. La caracterizacion de los cilindros mediante matrices de admitancia e impedancia generalizada permite resolver todos los problemas abiertos mencionados mediante un enfoque unitario, circuital. Los resultados presentados avalan la validez del metodo de los elementos finitos como herramienta para la solucion de problemas electromagneticos, destacando por su potencia y
