Para ello fue necesario desarrollar una nueva tecnica de prediccion de actividad farmacologica basada en combinar calculos de mecanica molecular entre una serie de ligandos y el receptor con analisis estadistico de dichas energias de interaccion, dentro de una serie congenerica de ligandos.  ello permite derivar una ecuacion de regresion que correlaciona determinadas interacciones entre ligando y receptor con actividad farmacologica y que puede utilizarse en el dise\u00f1o de nuevos ligandos, asi como comprender que grupos tanto de los farmacos como del receptor son importantes para explicar
