Esta participacion es entendida por tomas de aquino como unaparticipacion por semejanza. La semejanza con dios que poseen todas las criaturas es lo que da razon de que, a partr que es la plenitud del ser, existan otros seres. Todas las cosas existen en la medida en que poseen cierta semejanza con dios. Pero esta semejanza es causada en la criatura por dios mismo quien, como primera causa eficiente, hace a todas las cosas comunicandoles su perfeccion. Aunque el propio ser divino permanece incomunicado o imparticipado, su semejanza es multiplicada en las criaturas y, en este sentido, puede decirse que dios comunica su perfeccion en las criaturas, es decir, no por esencia sino por semejanza.
