Los resultados obtenidos han sido la base para una posterior diagnosis de dos g\u00e9neros nuevos y la redefinici\u00f3n de algunos de los otros g\u00e9neros considerados. Se ha elaborado una clave dicot\u00f3mica que incluye todas las especies de esponjas excavadoras descritas y considerado v\u00e1lidas del mediterr\u00e1neo. Se presenta una descripci\u00f3n de todas ellas, exhaustiva en el caso de las especies encontradas a lo largo del presente estudio. Dos especies son nuevas citas para el mediterr\u00e1neo y una es una nueva especie para la ciencia.  se realizaron dos estudios complementarios para discernir entre especies pr\u00f3ximas en base a par\u00e1metros normalmente no usados para este fin.  la segunda parte, la biolog\u00eda y la ecolog\u00eda de estas esponjas, comprende un estudio de la estructura y componentes celulares del sistema acu\u00edfero y de la reproducci\u00f3n sexual y asexual. Se presenta un seguimiento del ciclo reproductivo y la descripci\u00f3n de los tipos y elementos implicados en la reproducci\u00f3n de algunas especies. Los estudios realizados son de tipo organizativo, estructural, citol\u00f3gico y histol\u00f3gico.
