En referencia a los resultados obtenidos en los estudios de exposicion al frio, podemos decir que la termogenesis muscular de la pata no es suficiente para proporcionar el calor necesario para mantener la temperatura del propio tejido y que existen tres fases de utilizacion de sustratos durante el periodo que hemos estudiado: (1) utilizacion de glucosa\/glucogeno con un incremento en la salida de lactato; (2) incremento en la movilizacion de lipidos; (3) produccion de calor basada en la utilizacion de grasas. En los estudios de ejercicio intenso de corta duracion vimos que el sustrato mas importante para el musculo es la glucosa y que el musculo durante el ejercicio degrada proteinas. Durante este periodo los aminoacidos de cadena ramificada son oxidados por el musculo y el exceso de nitrogeno resultante es eliminado en forma de alanina y glutamina al torrente
