La tesis lleva a cabo una aproximacion al fenomeno de la locura y a la figura del loco en la edad media desde una perspectiva que no pretende ser global, pero si poledrica. Por ello se estudian y comparan un conjunto de 50 textos narrativos y se contrastan con casi 400 representaciones iconograficas. Se estudia la imagen de la locura que nos ofrecen las obras literarias y la realidad del fenomeno para traspasar esta investigacion al terreno de las miniaturas que hablan del loco en el texto biblico -salmo 52 \u00abdixit insipiens\u00bb- para estudiar si se da un transvase de motivos a tres bandas: arte, literatura y sociedad. Se realiza, primero, un estudio de tipo historico para centrar la cuestion en su aspecto nosografico. En un segundo tiempo se lleva a cabo un estudio linguistico con una quadruple orientacion: historica, semasiologica, onomasiologica y lexicologica para, posteriormente, establecer una tipolog\u00eda de la locura. Un tercer tiempo se presenta una analisis textual diacronico del corpus de obras seleccionadas y se describen y estudian los emblemas de la locura y su evolucion iconografica en un ejercicio de
