Las emulsiones y microemulsiones se han preparado en sistemas con tensioactivos no ionicos y se han seleccionado mediante estudios de su comportamiento fasico. Se han preparado emulsiones monodispersas utilizando metodos fisico-quimicos de emulsificacion y se ha estudiado su estabilidad en las condiciones de reaccion. Las reacciones de obtencion de particulas de silica se han llevado a cabo utilizando tetraetil ortosilicato (teos) como precursor. Utilizando emulsiones como medio de reaccion y nh3 como catalizador se ha observado una correlacion entre el tama\u00f1o de las gotas de las emulsiones y el tama\u00f1o de las particulas obtenidas. En cambio, utilizando hcl como catalizador las particulas obtenidas son mayores que las gotas de la emulsion inicial, debido a un proceso de coalescencia. Al utilizar microemulsiones como medios de reaccion, el diametro de las particulas es superior a las gotas de microemulsion, habiendose controlado el tama\u00f1o en funcion de la longitud de cadena y la concentracion de cotensioactivo (alcohol). Las particulas obtenidas se han caracterizado mediante las tecnicas de microscopia electronica de barrido, fisiosorcion de nitrogeno, espectroscopia infraroja por transformada de fourier, dispersion de rayos x a angulo peque\u00f1o y cromatografia en capa fina. Se han obtenido particulas monodispersas de diametros entre 0.5 y 1000 mim con superficies especificas entre 400 y 600 m2\/g en emulsion utilizando hcl como catalizador, de diametros entre 0.5 y 1 mum con superficies especificas del orden de 200 m2\/g en emulsion con nh3 y particulas entre 0.1 y 1 mum con superficies especificas inferiores a 100 m2\/g en microemulsion.
