Se considera polvo a part\u00edculas que pueden llegar a las varias micras de di\u00e1metro, pero los precursores de las cuales son entidades de pocos nan\u00f3metros. Es lo que llamamos nano-part\u00edculas. el silicio polimorfo se deposita en condiciones de plasma cercanas a la formaci\u00f3n de polvo, lo cual deber\u00eda de resultar en la incorporaci\u00f3n de nano-part\u00edculas en el material. Des de 1998 toda una serie de experiencias muestran que el pm-si:h tiene propiedades el\u00e9ctricas mejores que el silicio amorfo est\u00e1ndar (a-si:h). Adem\u00e1s, se realizaron dispositivos fotovoltaicos con pm-si:h, dando lulgar a c\u00e9lulas solares estables con la exposici\u00f3n al sol. Son precisamente estas cualidades las que motivaron todo este estudio sobre su estructura y condiciones de elaboraci\u00f3n.  este trabajo ha sido abordado des de tres puntos de vista diferentes: el plasma, el crecimiento y su estructura. La naturaleza particular de este material ha necesitado el desarrollo de varias t\u00e9cnicas especiales. por un lado, los estudios de la cavidad l\u00e1ser resonante permiteiron de medir concentraciones de nano-part\u00edculas del orden de 10-10 cm-3, en condiciones de obtenci\u00f3n del pm-si:h.  por otro lado, los estudios in situ realizados por elipsometr\u00eda espectrosc\u00f3pica (se) mostraron un crecimiento homog\u00e9neo del material. La interpretaci\u00f3n de la funci\u00f3n diel\u00e9ctrica del material obtenida por (se) necesit\u00f3 el desarrollo del modelo de tetraedro. Esto permiti\u00f3 de avanzar en la comprensi\u00f3n de la estructura de este material.
