Dentro de estos ultimos, se encuentra el denominado procesamiento de los tejidos diana, mediante el cual la forma mayoritaria de hgh hipofisiaria (hgh-22k) es transformada en una serie de variantes moleculares de bajo peso. Aunque la significacion biologica de estas variantes no ha sido plenamente establecida, se ha propuesto que podria representar un mecanismo de diversificacion de los efectos biolocicos de la hormona, de forma que cada uno de los peptidos originados presentaria actividad biologica diferenciada. De acuerdo con esta hipotesis el objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar la posibilidad de que la hgh-22k actue, en realidad, como una prohormona que a nivel tisular sufra un procesamiento metabolico que de origen a formas con actividades biologicas diferenciadas.
