Se midieron los niveles de pta en tumores de mama humanos, la determinacion de pta sirve para identificar pacientes de alto riesgo, especialmente jovenes, sin ganglios invadidos y con tumores peque\u00f1os.  se midieron los niveles de pta en astrocitomas y se comprobo que ayudan a establecer la malignidad del tumor.  se encontraron niveles de pta elevados en tumores de mama de ratones transgenicos con myc, ras y neu activados. En el caso de tumores con ras y neu activado, no se acompa\u00f1aba de una elevada expresion de myc, el cual se sabe que activa la transcripcion de pta.
