Las fuentes habituales de gla son los aceites de semilla de onagra, borraja y grosellero. En esta tesis se analizaron los aceites de 70 especies silvestres de plantas. En 30 especies del g\u00e9nero echium, endemicas de las islas macaronesicas se encontraron cantidades extraordinariamente elevadas de gla (&gt;20%).  posteriormente se obtuvieron fracciones de alta pureza en gla mediante concentraci\u00f3n de pufas por el m\u00e9todo de los compuestos de urca seguido por fraccionamiento en cromatograf\u00eda l\u00edquida en columna de gel de silice y nitrato de plata, a partir de aceites de semilla de echiuu fastuosun, anchosa azurea y scrophiaria sciophila.  el mejor resultado fue a partir de a-azurea, obteniendose fracciones de un 97% de pureza y 70% de rendimiento en gla. Se realizaron ensayos de optimizaci\u00f3n de las condiciones de operaci\u00f3n del m\u00e9todo de la urea y la cromatograf\u00eda l\u00edquida. Aleternativamente se ensayo la purificaci\u00f3n por plc.  finalmente se determinaron las relaciones quimiot\u00e1xonomicas en echiun basadas en el perfil de \u00e1cidos grasos mediante an\u00e1lisis
