Sin embargo, esta aceptado de forma general que cualquier desarrollo futuro de estos materiales implica el abandono del metodo de \u00abprueba y error\u00bb utilizado hasta ahora. En particular, el comportamiento en uso de estos materiales, como el de todos los materiales refractarios, esta directamente relacionado con sus propiedades mecanicas a alta temperatura. Para lograr el avance cientifico en lo que se refiere al desarrollo de los materiales de magnesia-grafito (mgo-c) y magnesia-grafito-aluminio (mgo-c-al) es necesario determinar las relaciones procesamiento-microestructura-propiedades mecanicas, para lo cual, en primer lugar, es preciso contar con las herramientas adecuadas para su caracterizacion.  unicamente a partir de ese momento, sera posible determinar las relaciones procesamiento-microestructura propiedades mecanicas y, a partir de este conocimiento, podran ser trazadas nuevas lineas de actuacion para el desarrollo de estos refractarios. En esta tesis se propone una metodolog\u00eda para la caracterizacion mecanica y microestructural de los materiales de mgo-c y mgo-c-al y se aplica a la caracterizacion de una serie de materiales con
