La concepci\u00f3n de este tipo de modelos es de especial inter\u00e9s para las empresas y otras organizaciones relacionadas con el sector ferroviario en el momento actual, debido a los profundos cambios que implican los procedimientos de reestructuraci\u00f3n y liberalizaci\u00f3n del sector que se est\u00e1n impulsando desde la uni\u00f3n europea y sus estados miembros.  el resultado de esta investigaci\u00f3n ha sido el dise\u00f1o e implantaci\u00f3n inform\u00e1tica de un modelo de simulaci\u00f3n de la red ferroviaria espa\u00f1ola de transporte combinado que permite valorar decisiones y planes de mejora, a medio y largo plazo, relacionados con las infraestructuras y las pol\u00edticas de operaci\u00f3n de la red.  mediante la experimentaci\u00f3n con un conjunto de escenarios basados en la configuraci\u00f3n actual de la red espa\u00f1ola de transporte combinado, y en las proyecciones sobre su evoluci\u00f3n en los pr\u00f3ximos a\u00f1os, se ha podido confirmar la utilidad del modelo y de la metodolog\u00eda de explotaci\u00f3n desarrollada.  esta experiencia abre unas perspectivas prometedoras para el desarrollo de nuevos modelos aplicados a otros sistemas
