Pombe, la trehalosa y otros polioles tienen la capacidad de estabilizar enzimas cuando son expuestas a tratamiento termico. En esta misma levadura existe una ruta mediada por proteina-kinasa a que confiere sensibilidad a tratamientos termicos. Sin embargo, la via por la cual las celulas desarrollan el estado de termotolerancia adquirida es independiente del producto del gen pka1 y dependiente del contenido intracelular de trehalosa. Durante el tratamiento termico se produce un aumento en la transcripcion de los genes que codifican los enzimas implicados en el metabolismo de la trehalosa, y adicionalmente una activacion postraduccional de dichos enzimas. La exposicion de las celulas de esta misma levadura a stress osmotico provoca la puesta en marcha de una via de transmision de se\u00f1ales mediada por las map-kinasas wis1- phh1 que induce la transcripcion de la trehalasa zygosacch. Rouxii, levadura capaz de resistir condiciones ambientales adversas, presenta una trehalasa reguladora activable por glucosa y otros azucares y que es dependiente de cambios en la concentracion de ampc. Esta misma actividad enzimatica tambien resulta activada por dnp o choque termico por una via que no utiliza ampc como segundo mensajero.
