Peque\u00f1as alteraciones en sus niveles intrarrenales provocan descensos significativos de la respuesta excretora renal a aumentos agudos del volumen extracelular. La disminucion de la sintesis de no provoca un descenso de la respuesta excretora renal a la expansion de volumen, que esta mediado por la ang ii endogena. Asimismo, los efectos inducidos por peque\u00f1os incrementos en los niveles intrarrenales de ang ii se potencian cuando la sintesis de no esta ligeramente disminuida.  por otra parte, la inhibicion simultanea de la sintesis de no y pg provoca efectos vasoconstrictores y antinatriureticos que no se observan cuando se inhibe la sintesis de cada uno de ellos por separado. La ang ii endogena media parcialmente estos efectos. Ademas el no y pg modulan los efectos de la ang ii intrarrenal, puesto que la administracion de una peque\u00f1a dosis de esta hormona tiene efectos vasoconstrictores muy importantes cuando esta ligeramente disminuida la sintesis de no y pg. Por tanto, el no, pg y ang ii interaccionan entre si en el control de la funcion renal, tanto en condiciones basales como durante aumentos agudos del volumen
