La lactoferrina resulto ser bacteriolitica sobre m. Luteus, siendo m. Radiophilus, m. Roseus y m. Varians resistentes a la molecula completa pero sensibles a una mezcla peptidica generada por hidrolisis acida a partir de la proteina. En consecuencia, el sitio de accion estaba presente en las cuatro especies, encontrandose la causa de este comportamiento diferente, en la fase de union de la proteina a la superficie celular. Se identificaron y purificaron los receptores de union a la lactoferrina y se estudio la interaccion con ellos.
