Mediante este procedimiento, resulta sencillo obtener indices efectivos, constantes de propagacion y caracteristicas de acoplo y conmutacion para guias slab y acanaladas, tanto aisladas como acopladas. La tecnica supone el modelado de la guia optica original mediante una guia optica equivalente, cuyo indice efectivo se evalua aplicando un metodo que denominamos metodo del indice efectivo asintotico. Los valores numericos han mostrado una buena convergencia y precision, tanto para los indices efectivos como para las constantes de propagacion y las caracteristicas de conmutacion.
