Cerevisiae codifican proteinas con actividad endo-1,3-b-glucanasica denominadas eng1p y eng2p, respectivamente. Eng1p es una glicoproteina de elevada masa molecular con alto contenido en carbohidrato que se secreta mayoritariamente al medio de cultivo. Sin embargo, eng2p permanece asociada a la pared celular. La unica homolog\u00eda detectada entre estas dos proteinas y las exoglucanasas caracterizadas en levaduras es el motivo dhhfhy, posible centro activo y\/o de union o sustrato. Sin embargo, eng1p y eng2p presentan una homolog\u00eda significativa entre si y con la proteina speng1p de s. Pombe, lo que apunta a la existencia en levaduras de una familia de proteinas con actividad endohidrolitica sobre el glucano similar a la que forman las exoglucanasas.  los genes eng1 y eng2 se expresan en el crecimiento vegetativo, pero la expresion de eng1 se inhibe durante la esporulacion, mientras que la del gen eng2 se induce fuertemente en este proceso.
