Para identificar nuevos genes gcd que codifiquen componentes de la maquinaria traduccional, se caracterizaron 65 mutantes gcd. Se identificaron dos nuevos genes: gcd14 y gcd15, que codifican reguladores negativos de la traduccion de gcn4. A continuacion se llevo a cabo la clonacion y caracterizacion molecular del gen gcd14. Este gen es esencial para el crecimiento celular y codifica una proteina de 44kda que participa, junto con gcd10, una subunidad del factor de iniciacion elf-3, en el procesamiento del arnt iniciador en el nucleo.
