El estudio de la expresion de estos genes en saccharomyces cerevisiae revela que excepto elgen aislado en yarrowia, los demas se expresan en esta levadura y sus proteinas son secretadas.  se han creado cepas mutantes carentes de estos genes en kluyveromyces y en yarrowia por reemplazamiento genico y se ha descrito la regulacion transcripcional del gen exg de yarrowia dependiente del medio de cultivo.  por ultimo, se ha logrado expresar y secretar en k.Lactis la hormona de crecimiento, tgh-ii, de la trucha arcoiris salmo gairdneri, usando el peptido se\u00f1al y el propeptido del gen exg
