G. Collingwood ha sido orillada a un segundo lugar. A la clasica triada scheleiermacher-dilthey-gadamer del desarrollo de la evolucion de la hermeutica se propone la de dilthey-collingwood-gadamer tomando como hilo conductor el relativismo congnitivo y su impacto en la duda de la objetividad de las ciencias humanas.  los tres autores parten del mismo problema tras la bancarrota de la razon producida por la muerte de hegel y los tres dan unas indicaciones afines y controvertidas:  son estas conclusiones las que se ponen en discusion.  tanto gadamer como collingwood censuran, por un lado, y continuan, por otro, el pensamiento de dilthey: rechazan su objetivismo ilustrado que le hace ver en la posicion espacio-temporal del sujeto investigador un obstaculo para la objetividad del discurso; y siguen al pensamiento de dilthey en tanto la razon se considera como la vida auto-interpretandose. La objetividad de las ciencias historico-sociales no se diferencia especificamente de las ciencias retorico-poeticas o de la argumentabilidad y racionalidad propia de la comprension ordinaria.  el relativismo cognitivo se revela entonces, para collingwood y gadamer, como un espejismo provocado por el metologismo de corte cartesiano. Si se exige un control exhaustivo a los hechos del espiritu objetivo hay que decretar el relativismo esceptico y la imposibilidad de una ciencia sobre el hombre y la misma filosofia.  sin embargo, si se admite la racionalidad practica como fundamento de las ciencias humanas, el relativismo como problema se disuelve a un precio muy alto desde el punto de vista del fundacionalismo: decretar el caracter epocal y local de la verdad y la imposibilidad de unos principios trans-historicos que garanticen la correcion en la interpretacion de las ciencias
