En este contexto, los esteres met\u00edlicos de \u00e1cidos grasos (biodesel), obtenidos a partir de la metanolisis de aceites vegetales y grasas animales o de los residuos generados por \u00e9stos en las cocinas, constituyen un combustible alternativo al gas\u00f3leo de automoci\u00f3n y calefacciones con claras ventajas medioambientales y energeticas. Respecto a las primeras, el biodiesel en un combustible biodegradable, no toxico, que produce menos emisiones contaminantes que el gas\u00f3leo, reduciendo, asimismo, el efecto invernadero. Respecto a las ventajas energ\u00e9ticas, el biodiesel constituye una energ\u00eda renovable con un balance energeticos positivo. Por otro lado, si las materias primas son aceites vegetales permite la utilizaci\u00f3n de las tierras de retirada establecidas por la reforma de la politica agraria comunitaria, mientras que si es obtenido a partir de aceites vegetales o grasas animales usados supone la utilizaci\u00f3n de un residuo, con lo que se evitar\u00edan los costes de su tratamiento. Por \u00faltimo, existen la posibilidad reciente de utilizar, como materia prima de proceso, las grasas generadas a partir de las partes de la vaca con mayor riesgo de padecer encefalopatia espongiforme bovina (bse), evitandose los costes generados por la incineraci\u00f3n de estos residuos.  en el presente trabajo se ha estudiado la producci\u00f3n de \u00e9steres met\u00edlicos a partir de aceite de girasol. A este respecto, el estudio comprende la selecci\u00f3n del catalizador del proceso, de entre distintos catalizadores, comerciales, homog\u00e9neos y heterogeneos, la cin\u00e9tica de la reacci\u00f3n, la optimaci\u00f3n de las condiciones de operaci\u00f3n para obtener un biodiesel de m\u00e1ximo rendim<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
