Utilizando diagramas de distribucion de actividad, seleccionamos aquellas propiedades que caracterizan la accion antivirica.  la aplicacion de este modelo a un extenso grupo de substancias comerciales ha permitido seleccionar 22 como probables antiviricos. Al efectuar las pruebas microbiologicas comprobamos que 18 de ellos muestran actividad frente a hsv-1, siendo los mas potentes:  7-carboximetil cumarina y 5-metil citidina que constituyen nuevos cabezas de serie. Utilizando las mismas ecuaciones hemos dise\u00f1ado 7 nuevos compuestos y sintetizado 5 de ellos, de los que 4 se confirman como activos segun las mismas pruebas que los anteriormente seleccionados, aunque mostraron menor actividad que la mayoria de aquellos.
