Guadalupe fue centro de peregrinacion popular, pero tambien de devocion de reyes y nobles, quienes en numerosas ocasiones mostraron su afecto hacia la virgen y su casa con sus visitas y su patrocinio artistico.  en este estudio se analiza este centro mariano en su conjunto, valorandolo como santuario y monasterio, con las dependencias propias de este tipo arquitectonico, como la iglesia o los claustros; las expansiones barrocas llevadas a cabo por los jeronimos en un intento de mantenerse como foco de interes frente al escorial, a traves de construcciones como la capilla de las reliquias, la sacristia, el camarin y la iglesia nueva.  ademas se aprecia el monasterio como centro de morada temporal, con el palacio real, \u00ab\u00bbparaiso\u00bb\u00bb de isabel la catolica\u00bb\u00bb, y el sistema de granjas para descanso de monjes y sus invitados; y tambien como morada eterna, ya que en el nos encontramos con importantes ejemplos sepulcrales, entre los que se cuentan el de tipo toledano del prior fray juan serrano, la obra de anequin egas para los velasco y cuadros o los sepulcros reales de enrique iv y do\u00f1a maria de aragon. Otro de los aspectos estudiados es la rica iconografia que se encuentra en el monasterio, y que se centra en el tema mariano en general y en particular en una advocacion concreta, la de nuestra se\u00f1ora de guadalupe, presente fundamentalmente a traves de grabados y de tres ciclos pictoricos localizados en el monasterio, como son los del claustro mudejar, la sacritia -pintados por zurbaran-, y la escalera del camarin.
