Mediante espectroscopia raman y otras tecnicas (ir, waxs, etc.) Se determino la orientacion molecular y la estructura cristalina del material presente en las grietas creadas por este fenomeno en una serie de polietilenos, y se extrajeron conclusiones acerca de los mecanismos de crecimiento de las grietas.  la estructura molecular obtenida se comparo con la del material estirado uniaxialmente. Este material es considerado un buen modelo estructural para estudiar el fenomeno de esc. La tension molecular relativa presente en este ultimo material fue tambien estudiada para los distintos polietilenos a traves de experimentos reo-opticos raman, y fue relacionada con la distinta arquitectura molecular de las muestras.
