Estas proteinas encabezan dos nuevos tipos de rips:  . Rips de tipo 2 fuertemente basicas, con actividad aglutinante de eritrocitos y sin afinidad por galactosa, manosa o sus derivados. El ejemplo mas destacado son las nigrinas 1 basicas.  . Rips de tipo 2 fuertemente basicas, sin actividad hemoaglutinante cuyo elemento cabecera es la nigrina b basica.  asi, se ha demostrado por primera vez la coexistencia en una misma especie vegetal e incluso en un mismo tejido de rips de tipo 1, tipo 2 clasicas, tipo 2 sin afinidad por galactosa y tipo 2 sin actividad lectina. Junto a estas propiedades, destaca la elevada capacidad de inhibir la sintesis proteica en extractos acelulares (siendo la nigrina b basica la toxina mas potente descrita hasta la fecha) sin que, sin embargo, presenten toxicidad apreciable sobre celulas o animales. Ademas estas toxinas presentan actividad topoisomerasa sobre el dna circular superenrollado y multidepurinante del rna genomico viral, lo que las convierte en potenciales agentes antipatogeno solas o
