De apoyo para el desarrollo de tecnolog\u00eda de bajo coste para el tratamiento de agua residual urbana en paises en vias de desarrollo (proyecto avicenne). El estudio ha tenido lugar tanto a nivel de dise\u00f1o, construccion y operacion de un reactor uasb (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket) de dos etapas a escala piloto.  las dos etapas lo constituyen dos reactores de 4,8 m3 y 3,03 m3 de capacidad respectivamente. Ambos reactores han sido construidos en hormigon y tuvo inicio en junio de 1995, en la actualidad sigue en operacion las instalaciones en la planta piloto del departamento de ing. Quimica &#8211; facultad de ciencias de la universidad de valladolid.  la aplicacion tecnologica del sistema de doble etapa ha quedado patente.
