La digestion anaerobia presenta una alternativa de tratamiento para residuos organicos biodegradables y muestra indudables ventajas sobre otros sistemas de tratamiento, como son: la peque\u00f1a cantidad de biomasa solida en exceso que produce, requerimientos energeticos muy bajos y capacidad de generar biogas, util como combustible.  en el presente proyecto, mediante la activacion de un lodo industrial en un reactor u.A.S.B. (Upflow anaerobic sludge bed) y su posterior adaptacion a un substrato inhibidor, se pretende mejorar el tratamiento de la degradacion anaerobia de las aguas residuales provenientes de industrias madereras y de fabricacion del papel, de industrias fertilizantes y pesticidas, o de aguas potabilizadas con trazas de compuestos fenolicos.  este tipo de aguas presentan concentraciones de fenol y compuestos derivados de este.
