Puesto que este sistema de transporte participa en la reabsorcion de agua y cloruro sodico en el ri\u00f1on, en esta tesis se estudiaron los efectos del equol, la daidzeina y la genisteina (otro isoflavonoide abundante en la soja) sobre la funcion renal, utilizando el modelo del ri\u00f1on de rata aislado y perfundido, y comparando sus efectos y mecanismos de accion con los de la furosemida, un conocido inhibidor del cotransporte y diuretico.  tanto equol como genisteina inhibieron el cotransporte na-k-2cl a concentraciones en el mismo rango que la furosemida, 10-35 mum. La daidzeina fue un pobre inhibidor de este sistema. En el ri\u00f1on aislado, equol y genisteina estimularon la diuresis, natriuresis y kaliuresis. La genisteina ademas indujo una intensa vasodilatacion. El efecto del equol se debio al aumento en la filtracion glomerular y la inhibicion del cotransporte en el asa de henle. El mecanismo de accion de la genisteina, en ausencia de cambios en la filtracion glomerular, incluyo la inhibicion del cotransporte directa e indirectamente, mediante la estimulacion de la sintesis de prostaglandinas. En la rata, in vivo, la inyeccion subcutanea de genisteina indujo un aumento significativo de la diuresis y natriuresis, no alterando la kaliuresis.  los resultados de esta tesis demuestran nuevas bioactividades (potenciales diureticos y vasorrelajantes) de los isoflavonoides; estas sustancias, presentes en la dieta, podrian contribuir a la proteccion frente al riesgo de padecer alteraciones del sistema cardiocirculatorio, especialmente la hipertension arterial, que parece tener el consumo de una dieta rica en vegetales.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
