El cuerpo carotideo es un quimiorreceptor arterial encargado de detectar cambios en las presiones de gases y ph sanguineos. Combinando tecnicas de radioinmunoensayo para ampc con tecnicas isotopicas para medir flujos de ca2+ y sintesis y liberacion de catecolaminas en una preparacion in vitro hemos estudiado el papel del ampc en la transduccion en este receptor sensorial. Encontramos una activacion especifica de la actividad adenilato ciclasa por la hipoxia y que la sintesis y liberacion de catecolaminas inducida por los distintos estimulos se potencie por la aplicacion de agentes que aumentan los niveles de ampc lo que nos permite atribuir un significado funcional a las modificaciones en los niveles de este segundo mensajero en la transduccion en el cuerpo carotideo. Finalmente encontramos en el cuerpo carotideo receptores dopaminergicos de tipo da-1 y receptores adrenergicos de tipo b y a2, asociados al sistema adenilato ciclasa y con importantes implicaciones en
