Pilar <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>La comunicacion entre las celulas quimiorreceptoras y las terminaciones nerviosas sensoriales del cuerpo carotideo (c.C.) Implica a varios neurotransmisores (catecolaminas, acetil-colina, peptidos opiaceos y sustancia p entre otros) que co-existen en esta sinapsis sensorial. Solo las catecolaminas han sido ampliamente estudiadas y a la dopamina se le ha asignado un papel excitador mientras que se propone para los peptidos opiaceos un papel inhibidor. Sin embargo el complejo proceso de comunicacion dista de estar comprendido y presumiblemente incluye multiples modulaciones en sus etapas pre y post-sinapticas. En esta tesis doctoral se han caracterizado los peptidos opiaceos presentes en el c.C., la modulacion que dichos neuropeptidos ejercen sobre la liberacion de dopamina y por ultimo las modificaciones que de forma simultanea suceden en el metabolismo de catecolaminas y peptidos opiaceos ante hipoxia aguda y cronica. Se concluye que: 1) la actividad opiacea corresponde a especies de bajo pm.
