En dos grupos de animales (n=60) se ha interpuesto, con tecnica microquirurgica, un injerto de nervio ciatico autologo de 10 mm de longitud, en el nervio ciatico contralateral. En uno de los grupos (n=30) se ha recubierto el injerto nervioso y mu\u00f1ones receptores con omentum autologo.  los animales han sido a los 30 y 90 dias de evolucion. En los grupos de 30 dias se han realizado, como metodos de valoracion, un estudio histologico e histomorfometrico.  en los grupos de 90 dias se ha realizado ademas un estudio electromiografico.  los estudios realizados han demostrado una regeneracion axonal mas eficaz en los grupos con omentum en los injertos tratados de 90 dias de evolucion. El valor porcentual medio de los axones regenerados ha sido 51.50% y en los injertos sin omentum 34.55%. La diferencia es estadisticamente significativa (p=2 por 10 elevado a -6).  las areas de distribucion del cono de crecimiento axonal han sido mas amplias: 0.36 mm2 en los recubiertos de omentum y 0.28 mm2 en los no tratados. La diferencia es asimismo estadisticamente significativa (p=0.01).  el estudio electromiografico realizado en los grupos de 90 dias de evolucion demuestra una amplitud del potencial evocado en musculo, significativamente meyor en los injertos con omentum, 12.96 mv y 9.88 mv respectivamente (p=0.001). En la latencia distal motora no se han encontrado diferencias significativas.  nuestros resultados demuestran que el omentum implantado de forma libre promueve eficazmente la regeneracion axonal de injertos nerviosos. Se sugiere que esta accion sea debida a la liberacion de factor de crecimiento fibroblastico (fgf), contenido en el tejido omental.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
