Su oposicion a la historia entregada por su mecenas, la condesa maria de champa\u00f1a, no solo es real y afecta a lo mas profundo de su psique despertando sus fantasmas, sino que se vuelve abiertamente activa y beligerante tras el valor del simbolo, tras el gesto, tras la palabra. En efecto, \u00abla charrette\u00bb es una obra de distanciamientos:  diatanciamiento autor-materia, distanciamiento autor-mecenas y distanciamiento autor-personaje.  la actitud de chretien es la de un autor integrado en lo social, que defiende y proclama los valores sociales, por imperfectos que sean, por encima de los del individuo, cuya \u00abindividualidad\u00bb solo se justifica en la medida que sirve a su comunidad.
