No obstante se sabe muy poco acerca de los mecanismos que controlan y regulan la excrecion biliar de las mismas. Estudios previos sugerian la implicacion de determinados metabolitos del acido araquidonico a traves de la via de la lipoxigenasa (peptidoleucotrienos) (plts) en la regulacion de la secrecion biliar. En el presente trabajo se utilizo el modelo experimental de higado de rata, aislado y perfundido para comprobar esta implicacion. Se observo que la administracion de taurocolato, sal biliar fisiologica mas abundante en la rata, estimulaba la excrecion biliar de plts de forma dependiente de dosis; este aumento era debido a un incremento en la sintesis hepatica. Reciprocamente, la administracion de plts (ltc4) presentaba un doble efecto:  a dosis altas inhibia la excrecion biliar de sbs, mientras que a dosis bajas estimulaba dicha excrecion.  finalmente, la administracion de ursodesoxicolato (udca) no modifico la sintesis hepatica de plts.
