Con el acido linoleico como sustrato, l1 produce el 13-hidroperoxido y l2 el 9-hidroperoxido. La actividad de estas dos formas aumenta de manera muy importante a lo largo de la germinacion y este aumento responde a un incremento en la transcripcion de los rna que codifican la lipoxigenasa y en la sintesis de las proteinas.  se han obtenido anticuerpos policlonales de conejo contra la forma l2 que muestra reactividad cruzada como l1. Los tejidos de la planta joven presentan una gran actividad lipoxigenasa, un alto contenido de proteina y de los rna mensajeros que codifican las dos formas, segun la deteccion con estos anticuerpos.  el tratamiento de semillas en germinacion con acido abscisico provoca un retraso en la germinacion y una disminucion en la actividad de ambas formas, mas pronunciada para la
