Hay un gradiente de concentraciones a lo largo de la ria. En la zona interna, la caida de concentracion se debe a un fraccionamiento durante la sedimentacion. En la zona externa, a una mezcla de particulas fluviales con marinas. Las concentraciones son en general bajas a nivel regional, solo destacan co y mn en la cabecera de la ria, posiblemente por causas naturales. El analisis de perfiles verticales de sedimento indica que los efectos de la composicion y origen del sedimento sobre las concentraciones metalicas ha estado actuando con parecida intensidad desde el pasado. No hay indicios claros de aportes contaminantes pero en la zona interna hay se\u00f1ales claras de una diagenesis temprana intensa.  las concentraciones corporales mas altas ocurren en las algas del extremo dulceacuicola. Los fucus ceranoides de esta zona tienen concentraciones elevadas de mn, co, ni y zn a nivel regional. Las diferencias en edad del tejido analizado en las algas parecen depender del mecanismo de toma de los metales, siendo claras en zn, co, mn y ni.  sin embargo, los tejidos maduros han estado expuestos mas tiempo y pueden haber sufrido en el pasado aportes de metal biodisponible mas altos que alteren las diferencias con la edad. Las diferencias con la altura en el intermareal son poco apreciables. Solo de cierta consideracion cuando aumenta la cantidad de metal biodisponible o las algas de un nivel u otro han estado sometidas a concentraciones metalicas ambientales
