Se realizo un estudio epidemiologico en los a\u00f1os 1984-1989 para conocer la preValencia de parasitacion en la costa de galicia, asi como en ostras importadas previa su introduccion en aguas gallegas. Los resultados denotan que el parasito se detecta en las principales zonas de cultivo de galicia.  la excepcion se corresponde en zonas donde no se habia introducido ostra foranea (ensenada de san ciprian y ria de o barqueiro). En relacion al desarrollo de la infeccion en las zonas de cultivo, esta puede variar entre 3 y 6 meses. No se ha encontrado diferencias de la evolucion de la infeccion entre el cultivo suspendido (batea) y el sobreelevado. La preValencia de infeccion va en aumento con la edad y el tiempo de cultivo. Los signos macroscopicos no son fiables como diagnostico de la enfermedad, mientras que el metodo de frotis demostro ser el mas fiable y rapido para la deteccion del parasito. No existen diferencias serologicas entre las distintas cepas de b. Ostreae europeas y americana.
