En este trabajo se ha identificado un tercer gen (aparte de los dos ya conocidos anteriormente) que codifica una proteina de la familia de la queratina 6. El analisis de la secuencia de este gen, en sus zonas codificante y no codificante, demuestra una estrecha relacion con los otros dos genes, si bien sugiere que su regulacion se debe llevar a cabo de forma diferente. El estudio de los elementos que regulan la expresion de otro de los genes (bk6x) ha permitido caracterizar tres de estos elementos:  un sitio ap-1, responsable de la mayor parte de la actividad transcripcional, y sendos sitios de reconocimiento del factor ap-2 y el receptor del acido retinoico.
