La gravedad de las enfermedades que producen y su elevada incidencia en los pacientes inmunoeprimidos ha impulsado el desarrollo de tratamientos antivirales y de nuevos metodos diagnosticos, principalmente los basados en la amplificacion gen\u00f3mica. sin embargo, la frecuencia con la que diferentes virus pueden producir sindromes similares, obliga al laboratorio a dedicar un gran esfuerzo para la realizacion del diagnostico diferencial de la infeccion.  para la deteccion e identificacion simultanea de herpesvirus humanos, se ha dise\u00f1ado un nuevo abordaje de amplificacion genomica multiple. Para la primera reaccion se utilizan dos mezclas equimolares de oligonucleotidos no degenerados, que alinean en sus extremos 3\u00c2\u00bf-con una de las dos regiones conservadas seleccionadas de entre las presentes en los genes adn polimerasa de los herpesvirus y que se extienden en sus extremos 5\u00c2\u00bf- a secuencias no conservadas y especificas de cada especie viral que se pretende detectar. la elevada concentracion de productos obtenidos tras la primera reaccion de amplificacion, permite el uso de una segunda reaccion de amplificacion multiple, que se dise\u00f1a de modo que cada herpesvirus produzca un fragmento de adn de diferente tama\u00f1o y utilizando oligonucleotidos que tienen en cuenta la variabilidad natural de cada herpesvirus. Para excluir los resultados falsos negativos, las reacciones de amplificacion multiple incluye, ademas, un fragmento de adn del herpesvirus porcino 1 y sus correspondientes oligonucleotidos.  el metodo se muestra capaz de detectar al menos 10 moleculas de cada adn de herpesvirus.
