De la mayoria de estas sustancias se desconoce el efecto a corto o largo plazo que pueden ejercer sobre estos ecosistemas acuaticos y las repercusiones que sobre la salud del hombre o sus medios de produccion y ocio puedan provocar.  dada la imposibilidad de analizar y cuantificar cada uno de los mas de 80.000 sustancias identificadas que en un momento dado podrian contaminar los ecosistemas acuaticos, se ha propuesto recientemente la utilizacion de ensayos biologicos o tes de ecotoxicidad, en los cuales se trata de evaluar mas el efecto toxico que producir los contaminantes, que el conocimiento exacto y preciso de las sustancias presentes en dicho medio o que vayan a verterse en un momento dado.  en nuestro estudio se ha desarrollado y puesto a punto un test de ecotoxicidad basado en el stress metabolico producido por los posibles toxicos sobre la actividad b-d-gluconomidasa de escherichia coli. En dicha puesta a punto se ha optimizado este test mediante una tecnica de fluorescencia, se analizan y critican diferentes metodos de evaluacion de la toxicidad (ome, noec, ecgo, etc.) Y se comparan
