El modelo acopla el transporte convectivo-dispersivo y los procesos fisico-quimicos que tienen lugar entre las especies quimicas presentes en el acuifero (reacciones acido-base, de formacion de complejos en disolucion, de precipitacion-disolucion, redox y fenomenos de adsorcion).  los procesos de adsorcion se representan mediante modelos de formacion de complejos superficiales. La adsorcion puede venir controlada por el equilibrio quimico local o por la cinetica de transferencia de materia entre las fases (difusion externa o interna).  el modelo acuitraq se ha validado con resultados de experiencias de adsorcion-desorcion en columnas de lecho fijo descritas en la bibliografia y se ha aplicado a la simulacion del transporte de contaminantes en sistemas de diversa
