El trabajo trata de encuadrar a las cofradias en este espacio de tiempo dentro de la historia de la ciudad. Aspecto importante pues, dentro de la mentalidad sacralizada del antiguo regimen es fundamental el estudio de procesiones, rogativas, actos liturgicos que fueron protagonizados por estos organismos. Asimismo, se destaca la importante obra social que las cofradias desarrollaron.  una vez estudiado este aspecto historico, se entra en el tema artistico propiamente dicho. Despues de un estudio iconografico en el que cabe una reflexion teologica actual se pasa a hacer un inventario del arte de las cofradias conservado en la actualidad.
