Tambien, el metabolismo ionico es de especial interes por sus efectos en multiples funciones biologicas. Hasta el momento, la relacion entre la pineal y los cationes, parece mostrar que puede existir algun tipo de interaccion entre ellos.  recientemente se ha se\u00f1alado que el magnesio (mg) afecta la produccion de mel. En el presente trabajo, se estudiaron un total de 90 ratas sprague-dawley, macho, repartidas en 2 grupos experimentales: 1) cronico (n=40), se les administro mel a las 17 h. Pm (15-21d). Un subgrupo fue bulbectomizado previamente, para incrementar su sensibilidad a la hormona. 2) agudo (n=50), se les administro mel, en dosis unica, a las 17 h. Pm, para ser sacrificadas por decapitacion a los 0, 60, 120 y 180 min.  posteriormente se recogieron la sangre troncular y casi de forma simultanea los siguientes tejidos cerebrales: 1) gl. Pineal, 2) hip. Basal, 3) hip. Supraquiasmatico, 4) resto de hipotalamo y 5) corteza frontal; para analizar el contenido de mg por espectrofotometria de absorcion atomica. Estos tejidos se congelaron, liofilizaron, pesaron y dirigieron con ac. Nitrico. Las variaciones sericas y tisulares de mg encontradas tras la administracion aguda y cronica de mel parecen poner de manifiesto la participacion de este ion en la accion
