Para el ion amonio los resultados am1 indican una solvatacion preferencial por moleculas de amoniaco en la primera capa y por moleculas de agua en la segunda. A continuacion se realizan varias simulaciones con los iones l1+ y na+ en mezclas de agua-metanol. Para los iones l1+ y na+ nose observa solvatacion preferencial de ninguno de los disolventes para el ion c1+ los resultados muestran una solvatacion preferencial de este ion por parte de las moleculas de agua. Ademas, el grado de solvatacion preferencial aumenta al aumentar el numero total de moleculas de disolvente en la simulacion.  finalmente, un estudio de la hidratacion de iones lantanidos tripositivos muestra que el mecanismo de intercambio de moleculas de agua en la primera capa de solvatacion, cambia del tipo \u00abd\u00bb para los iones mas ligeros, al tipo \u00abia\u00bb para los iones mas
