La histamina estimula la formacion de amp uclico en ambas tipos celulares en presencia de 3-isobutil-1-metilxantina a traves de receptores h2 de histamina, siendo la respuesta mucho mayor en los cultivos de astrocitos (emax = 304 i 44% sobre el basal, n = 8) que en los de neuronas (emax = 24 i 2%, n = 5).  en la segunda parte del trabajo, se ha estudiado la capacidad de varios neuromoduladores de estimular la acumulacion de gmp ciclico dependiente de oxido nitrico en los cultivos enriquecidos en neuronas y en astrocitos.  en neuronas, el glutamato fue el unico compuesto que produjo efectos significativos (a traves de receptores de nmda), mientras que en astrocitos, varias sustancias (histamina, dopamina, peptido vosoactivo intestinal, bradiquinina, noradrenalina y glutamato) estimularon significativamente, siendo los efectos del glutamato y de la noradrenalina en estas celulas mediados por receptores de quiscualato insensibles a ampa y alfa, adrenergicos
