La il-1 puede actuar tanto a nivel hipofisario como hipotalamico, sin haber encontrado ningun efecto a nivel adrenal. Otras citocinas como il-6 o tnfalfa no son capaces de estimular la secrecion hipotalamica de crf de una forma dosis-dependiente en un sistema \u00abin vitro\u00bb de perifusion como si lo hacen la il-1 y la il-2. La accion hipotalamica de la il-1 no es mediada por el sistema catecolaminergico, como cabria pensar en un principio.  los glucocorticoides, productos finales de la activacion del eje h-h-a, modulan la accion de las i1tocinas sobre la actividad del eje tanto a nivel hipotalamico, como hipofisario.
